Peer Reviews

This week, you've been spending some quality time with the work of one of your classmates.  How's it going?

  1. Really great! I'm very anxious to see what Melissa has to say about what I have so far. It will be so helpful to have someone else's input. But I'm really nervous considering my field situation was two paragraphs long and I am still semi-confused on what to do with it.

  2. I've learned a lot about how bad my paper is by reading Emma's comparatively great paper.

  3. Working on peer reviews has reminded me that I do not know the appropriate symbols to effectively convey meaning while proofing. I may never be a copy editor.

  4. Just by reading Kathleen's paper and editing it, I know some of the places I need to work in my own paper. I need to focus on being specific but not generalized specificity so that the reader understands my points and stance while at the same time can understand the other parts of the argument. And I think that sentence made little sense as well...oh goodness.

  5. I'm a fan of peer reviews. I've learned a lot about my own writing through reading another's, as well as learned about a topic I hadn't really looked into intensely before.

  7. Thanks, Ryan! And whatever...yours was great! How could you possibly write a bad paper about football at Alabama??

I know it's a late post, but I think that the peer review is what really jump-started the ideas for my own paper, so I'm glad we went through this exercise.

It kind of seems like editing forces you to keep your own argument and your own ideas in the back of your mind during the process; I realized when Ryan had really specific examples in his paper that I was being way too general--Some of the goal is to define folk art, yes, but specific examples (and not just one case study) will help solidify my argument. That is, this peer review has provided some good insight for my outline, which will hopefully help me to flesh out this paper a good bit ;)!

  8. I enjoyed reviewing Stephanie's paper! the peer reviews helped a lot in the process of this research paper and it made me realize what I need to look for when I am reviewing other people's papers in the future.

  9. I've enjoyed the peer reviews because I not only got to get into someone else's topic, but also it helped me with figuring out how to approach my paper.
